20 years, across the business
I've worked in mining and civil construction, property, engineering, insurance, healthcare diagnostics, manufacturing, auctions and legal services, for NYSE-listed and ASX-listed companies and for SMEs.
About
Nathan Booth, Brisbane. 20 years in corporate reporting, now working with SMEs and not-for-profits a piece at a time.
Dashboard builders often don't understand the numbers, and accountants often can't build the dashboards. I do both. Most of my 20 years has been spent in sales and operational reporting, tying non-financial data back to financial performance to work out what's really driving revenue and cost.
I've worked in mining and civil construction, property, engineering, insurance, healthcare diagnostics, manufacturing, auctions and legal services, for NYSE-listed and ASX-listed companies and for SMEs.
Most SMEs need what a management accountant brings, but not 40 hours a week of it. I work a piece at a time: a costing review this quarter, a forecast next, ongoing reporting if it helps, and you swap pieces in and out as the business changes.
Three moments
I stripped the reports back to what mattered and reconciled them to the ledger. Then I added open orders, locked down who saw what, and kept the data honest with automation, clear rules on where it lived, and constant checks.
Daily figures across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, with 15+ users trained. It ran for years after I left, and was retired only when the business changed ERPs.
[Quote from former colleague]
Labour hours weren't reaching job costs. I set up time-and-attendance capture and new payroll, fed the data into Power BI, and helped roll out the ERP.
Costing and variance on $1 million-plus projects, from the shop floor up, with live dashboards on the factory-floor screens.
I prepared the monthly matter-level reporting in Power BI and Excel, and helped tighten the data checks and structure.
A clearer monthly view of matter performance, budget and funding for leadership.
How an engagement runs
Week 1
An hour on the questions you want answered, then read-only access to your spreadsheets and systems.
Week 2
A working version on your own data, checked against your accounts.
Week 4
The finished reports, a guide to every number, and training. Then you choose: run it yourself, have me alongside for a few months, or have me run your month-end.
